APCO QUARTERLY MEETING

Meeting was called to order by President Jo Tranter.
Roger Wells from Ft. Payne PD gave the invocation and
lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
Jo welcomed everyone and recognized guests.
Sec/Tres Cheryl Robinson presented the minutes of April 9, 2003; this was seconded by Gina Bowman and carried by the Board.
Cheryl also presented the treasurers report. Pat Hall made a motion to accept the report as presented; this was seconded by Tracy Williams and carried
by the Board.
Jo then called for Committee Reports:
Executive Council:
Pat Hall went to conference and gave a update of what
was done at conference. There were 65 voting members present.
Conference sites are as follows:
2008: Kansas City
2009: Las Vegas
There were several Lifetime Awards presented
(Pat has complete list).
There has been a committee set up to search for an
Executive Director.
There was also an issue of travel expense for staff and it
was decided that they would do a per-diem on daily
travel as long as reasonable.
Pat has a written report if any more information is
needed.
Minimum Standards:
Pat Hall advises everything on hold at this time due to
political climate.
Historical:
Sharon Carroll not present.
Training:
Marsha Jones advised she is still working on a list
across the state. If you have any training that your agency is opening to other
agencies please let Marsha know, also send to Gina and she will publish on Website.
Membership:
Helen Smith
and Becky Clarke advise they have nothing
new to report.
Frequency:
John Wyckoff advises there will be a meeting October 17, 2003 in Montgomery; need
to have someone from each agency there. Also, a reminder to check expiration date
on frequencies.
Newsletter:
Gina Bowman advises new website is up and next newsletter
will be on website. Application and hotel information for Alabama APCO Conference
2004 are posted in website.
Any information you have to put on the website please
send to Gina. Jo advised we want to thank Gina and her husband for the excellent
job they have done on website.
Area Representatives:
Please work your areas and lets see if we can’t get more
involved.
Mutual Aid State
Task Force:
Joel Whitman gave an update of what the task force
was doing in reference to interoperability. It would cost 3 ½ million dollars
to handle 60% of population of the state and cover 19 counties. To do the whole
state it will cost 10.1 million. Sheriff Ted Sexton, Tuscaloosa
County, is Chairperson of Homeland Security Alabama. They are hoping to train at least 2 people from each area. Joel
also advised that Sheriff Sexton had started a project Life Saver in his area, for more information you can call Lt. Patricia
Miller, 205-752-0616, ext. 603.
Conference Report:
Pat Hall advised she was very pleased with the turn
out for the conference. She had 26 vendors in the vendor hall and we showed a
profit of $4,693.25. Everyone seemed to enjoy the conference.
Old Business:
Pat Hall advised that several years ago we were asked
to appoint a Commercial Liaison to promote a better atmosphere between members. We
have not had an active representative for a while. Pat asked for any recommendations
for Active Commercial member to fill this spot. There were none from the floor. If you have any nominations please e-mail Jo or call her at 246-566-4773. We will entertain nominations at next meeting.
New Business:
John Wyckoff was recognized as a Lifetime Member of
APCO and was presented a gift by Alabama APCO as our token of appreciation for him.
Pat Hall was also recognized as a Senior Member of
APCO.
New Business Continued:
Gina Bowman advises that we will have a Alabama APCO
Telecommunicator of the Year, with presentation to be made at Alabama APCO Conference 2004.
We will be taking nominations. Please see Gina for more information.
