PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Hello Everyone!

There are some exciting things happening in our chapter that I want to tell you about.

First, our Web Site is up and running and looks wonderful.  Gina Bowman and her husband did a terrific job designing the pages and keeping the information updated.  Gina thanks so much for your hard work.

Secondly, as a chapter we want to sponser some quarterly training for Telecommunicators.  We will choose a central location for the training and make it very cost effective to attend.  Please let me know what topics or areas of training you would like to have presented and we will work on bringing those sessions to you.  So watch the web site as we will post the information on the training page.

Thirdly, State EMA has written a proposal and if approved, will allow for the training of fourteen (14) instructors and twenty (20) telecommunicators statewide.  The plan is based on a seven (7) region area with two (2) instructors from each region and then twenty (20) telecommunicators statewide.  That means a total of 34 people would receive training via State EMA.  I will let you know more as we learn more.

Fourthly, the National Terrorism Prepardness Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida has asked to do a "LIVE" broadcast during our APCO State Conference using our APCO attendees as the audience.  The program is called "March Live Response".  It would be a panel discussion using Federal, State and Local representation, as well as a 911 operator/dispatcher.  The topics discussed would be along these lines:

    1.  Manage and coordinate a large scale incident while maintaining routine
         operation (i.e., 911).

    2.  Recognize the possiblity of WMD incident occurence through calls for
service, dispatch patterns and signs and symptoms.

They just participated in the NIJ Conference in St. Louis, Missouri using the same program format.  I think this will be a great opportunity for our chapter and look forward to the presentation.  It will be presented during one of our session times.  If you would like to view the September program, visit their web site at:  http://terrorism.spcollege.edu Archives-September.  Make plans now to attend the conference March 22-25, 2004 at the Beachside Resort in Gulf Shores, AL.

A special thanks to all you Regional Respresenatives for all your hard work and the contacts you are making in your areas.  It is much appreciated.

Don't forget the chapter meeting November 18th at 10:00 in Clanton.  See the link on the web site for more details.

God Bless You Richly,

Jo Tranter, President

Letter from a friend

Just a brief note to all my friends in Sweet "Home-away-from-Home" Alabama.  Your friendship, your support and all your kind words have done so much during the campaign and thinking of you helps me focus on what really matters.
Thanks also to Pat who got me through the conference speeches with that beautiful Alabama smile.  I want you to know that at the swearing in ceremony I had around my neck, the "Heart of Alabama", the gift from my visit.  More importantly you are in my heart and in my thoughts each day as we go forward.

God Bless and Keep you each and everyone
